Alan is a local, and has for many years, lived in and around Christchurch, Dorset, UK. He has always painted, even at an early age, and was constantly encouraged during his days at school. On leaving, he attended The Bournemouth College of Art and Design. His artistic interest continued throughout many years of working in the family business, before he had time to indulge in his creative pursuits full-time in 1990. Alongside his passion for painting runs a deep interest in wildlife, particularly in the birds of the local area. in events.
Alan exhibits his work regularly in Christchurch, notably in the Hayloft Gallery and at the Regent Centre. During the summer months his work can be viewed at the Open Air, ‘Art in the Park’ exhibition held in Bournemouth Lower Pleasure Gardens.
Alan’s work has found its way into many collections worldwide.Originally his work reflected this, containing many illustrations and paintings of the species he studied. After a short while, the surrounding landscape of the areas he visited, became more of a focal point. Christchurch Harbour, Hengistbury Head and the Avon Valley soon began to provide ideal inspiration for the development of the unique style, for which Alan has become more widely known.
Recently Alan’s subject matter has been extended to include paintings of The New Forest and many other local coastal vistas, as well as still producing the occasional wildlife picture.
